About PhysicalMind Institute

PhysicalMind’s predecessor—a Pilates Studio in Santa Fe—opened its doors in 1968 which was the year after Joe died. We also introduced the very first Pilates Certification in 1992 and possibly the first Pilates Website under the name The PhysicalMind Method in 1998.

So why does this current website look so different from our competition: Reformer Pilates studios or Teacher Training/ Certification companies? You might say we’ve been there before and done it all, but it’s really more complicated.

As the founder of PhysicalMind, I decided I wanted to emulate Joe. He wasn’t a Pilates teacher; he was an inventor who called his Method Contrology. Following his path, I began to invent products, most of which are relatively new. Like Joe, I created programming for these products. That's why you see things you've never seen before and might wonder, "Is this Pilates?" It is 100%.

Moreover, all these patented products are here for you to explore as they address the failures of the diet and exercise revolution that began in 1963. Fortunately, now there are miracle diet drugs which will obviously impact all exercise too. The PhysicalMind products are also for all BodyMind exercises as they meet a need beyond Joe's original and marvelous machines—the Reformer, the Cadillac, the Wunda Chair—because they address a much wider audience. They are portable, affordable, and endlessly adaptable products.
